Today I am very excited to share with you all a Canadian company called Smith Farms discovered through a glowing review by Addicted to OPI for their Vitamin Rich Hand Creme. The one product I really wanted to try was their Marshmallow Face Cream ($26) as the reviews on the Smith Farms website were very positive.
Smith Farms is truly an all natural skincare company that is a family-run and owned. All products promise to be handcrafted, made from natural ingredients, packaged in recyclable containers and of course are cruelty-free. There are also no synthetic preservatives, petroleum-based ingredients, sulfates or detergents or artificial fragrance or colour. When I read the ingredient list for the Marshmallow Face Cream, there wasn’t a single scary thing listed! It was quite impressive! I felt like I was using an “honest” and truly natural product.
Made with 47% organic ingredients, this rich and fluffy cream applies smoothly and absorbs quickly, leaving skin hydrated and protected without making it greasy. Mallow root extract gives the cream its mousse-like texture and most importantly, softens skin giving it a smoother, healthier feel. The addition of yeast derived collagen further moisturizes and helps strengthen skin while antioxidant rich rice bran oil helps heal and regenerate.
Packaging: Very solid. This comes in a glass bottle with a pump and felt very luxurious. I was expecting plastic, not glass so this was a welcome surprise. Even my fiancé commented on how nice the bottle was which says a lot!
Scent: OK, here is where I think there might be a bit of a surprise. This does not smell like the sweet confectionary marshmallow that we all know and love.
It’s actually this:
These are marshmallow (Althaea officinalis) roots which have a variety of uses and have a history of medicinal properties including softening and healing. Mallows are actually a family of plants mostly found in tropical regions with the “marsh” mallow being found where? You guessed it, in damp regions like marshes! Today’s marshmallows actually have no trace of mallow in them. So, what does this Marshmallow Face Cream smell like then? It smells like citrusy and sort of like oranges which I love! This is probably due to the presence of orange blossom floral water and bergamot oil.
Formula: This can be used as both a day and night cream (woohoo!) and the very first thing I noticed was how fast-absorbing and non-greasy it felt on my skin. It didn’t feel thick or heavy, but satisfied my ever-thirsty dry skin. At first I thought that because this cream disappeared so quickly, I would start to feel tight and dry in a few hours, but that was not the case! My skin was perfectly happy all day and night and felt so soft to the touch. The texture is not would I would call “fluffy”, but more like a gel-cream? I usually dissect ingredients at this point, but there’s really not that much to decipher! The presence of chamomile and aloe vera has been wonderful on my skin after being in the sun and is just so gentle and soothing for any redness.
Final Verdict: I am so pleased with this face cream and Smith Farms for staying true to being natural and yet affordable. There are a lot of luxury skin care lines that have origins in being all-natural, but we have to pay quite the price. I highly recommend this product as I have been using it everyday for 2 weeks and it does what it claims to do. My skin is softer and also soothed after extended exposure to sun. The formula is fast-absorbing, non-greasy, smells great and kept my dry skin happy all day long. I also love being able to use this for both day and night eliminating the need for having two separate moisturizers. All in all, a fantastic product that I will continue to use!
I’m sure you all must be so sick of me giving stuff away at this point, but this time you can thank Smith Farms as they have kindly donated a full-sized bottle of their Marshmallow Face Cream to give to one of my readers! This giveaway will end on August 9th and you must be a resident of either Canada or the USA.
