Last year in July, I attended a MAC Cosmetics preview showcasing some pretty amazing products for the Fall season one of which was the MAC Studio Waterweight SPF 30 Foundation ($40.00 CDN). Last year was all about serum-like foundations that were so light that only a dropper was needed to deliver the product. When I tried the prototype of this foundation on my hand, I was floored and could not wait until its release!
Unlike many beauty enthusiasts, I only got into MAC in 2013 so I don't have every single collection nor the plentiful MAC lipstick collection. This also meant that I did not have a MAC foundation identity so MAC PR was nice enough to send a few shades along in the hopes that I would find my match and thankfully, I did! NC 35!
I received the shades NC 20*, NW 22*, NW 45*, NC 35* and NC 37* to try and oddly enough NW 22 also worked for me when blended out. In fact, most of the shades with the exception of NC 20 which was too light, blended out nicely and had great coverage. The consistency of the foundation was incredibly light and felt almost like a serum with silicone to give the skin that smooth and flawless feeling. The pricing for 30mL is also incredibly reasonable as I only need 2 drops to cover my entire face.
One thing I noticed was that the foundation left me feeling a bit oily after a full day at work in my T-zone which almost never happens to me, so I started focusing my application more on my cheeks and nose where most of my redness is which helped with the grease factor. Bare face with just basic skincare on.
With MAC Studio Waterweight Foundation. Suddenly I have no pores!
Final verdict: The incredible lightness of this foundation is what I love and though there are a few other foundation options with serum-like consistencies, the silicone smoothness is what set this foundation apart from the others for me.
