I love skincare that works while I am sleeping and wish I could get MORE done that way! Asian skincare was the first to introduce the concept of sleeping "packs" or masks and I have been a regular customer of the sleeping mask since I was 25. Every other night was sleeping mask night though once I started blogging, it got harder to stay consistent especially when reviewing a full skincare line. One thing I never stopped though was applying a generous dollop of lip balm to my lips just before bed time so it was really easy to swap my peppermint lip balm for Laneige's Lip Sleeping Mask* ($24.00 CDN)!
This is a leave-on lip treatment that exfoliates and smooths lips overnight to have you wake up to resurfaced, supple and soft lips. This has a thick balm texture and can actually feel a bit funny while you're sleeping because it really is like a mask in the sense that it does not absorb, but instead SEALS moisture in. If you sleep with cats, use this lip mask with caution because the fur will stick. Especially if your cats like to sleep on your face...
Firstly, this mask smells like one of those deliciously fruity Japanese candies so already I was scooping this stuff out like food! I was actually trying to figure out what the "exfoliating" ingredients were and other than sugar and possibly fruit extracts at the end of the ingredients list there really wasn't anything significant I could find. The moisturizing effects are quite noticeable though as my lips looked plump and smooth every time I used this lip mask. If you have flaky or dry patches, this will help, but you will still have to manually remove the flaky bits. TMI, I know. I use a small toothbrush to gently brush off the now loosened bits of skin.
This comes with a little lip applicator which actually fits the curve of the lips quite nicely, but I have recently gotten very lazy and just use my fingers. If you have long nails, the applicator makes it less messy to use.

Final verdict: The only thing I would have loved more is a minty feeling to this lip mask, but overall I enjoyed it. Definitely better than sleeping with just regular lip balm as the formulation seemed to pack a wallop of moisture that I had never experienced before. The exfoliating aspect was a bit of a letdown, but waking up with smooth and plump lips that have been sealed and protected from the elements all night is a pretty awesome way to start the day so I am definitely going to keep using this. In fact, I'm wearing it right now as I write this!
The Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask is available at Sephora and a number of online Korean etailers.
