One Korean beauty products I can't believe I have loved for so long are sheet masks. I probably used my first one 10 years ago and it definitely wasn't as nice as the sheet masks now. The masks fit better and the ingredients seem to have improved as well. Sheet masks have made a HUGE comeback recently with masks being made of different materials, patterns on them and with good ingredients tso you have no idea how excited I was when these new Avon Anew Brightening* and Firming Sheet Masks* landed in my mailbox!
Made in Korea, this serum-infused sheet mask is made of a mesh-like material which contours closely to the face to act like a second skin. I am all about brightening the skin so I had to try the Brightening Sheet Mask first! Coming in a pack of 4 for $30 CDN this sheet mask brightens with pearl powder and niacinamide. Pearl powder has been traditionally used in Asian cosmetics by the royal family to improve the appearance of the skin. It is thought that pearl powder stimulates fibroblasts and collagen production. I was happy to see niacinamide as this is probably one of the ingredients proven to improve hyperpigmentation. Both of these ingredients are around the halfway point of the ingredients list so let's rejoice that they aren't at the end!
The essence itself is pretty thick and sticky and even after I removed the sheet mask and massaged in the excess essence, my skin still felt quite tacky which I didn't like, BUT I also felt like that extra tackiness made the mask adhere to my skin much better meaning no goatee! My skin did feel very hydrated though and I did not need any moisturizer though it is still recommended in addition to eye cream.
Ingredients: Water/Eau, Glycerin, Dipropylene Glycol, Hydroxyethylcellulose, PEG-32, Methyl Gluceth-20, Betaine, PEG-60 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Acrylates/C10-30 Alkyl Acrylate Crosspolymer, Xanthan Gum, Caprylyl Methicone, Sodium Polyacrylate, C13-14 Isoparaffin, Glycerin, Niacinamide, Arbutin, Allantoin, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice, Pearl Powder, Scutellaria Baicalensis Root Extract, Ethylhexylglycerin, Butylene Glycol, Chlorphenesin, Polyglutamic Acid, Glyceryl Caprylate, Centella Asiatica Extract, Parfum/Fragrance, Laureth-7, Saccharomyces/Rice Ferment Filtrate Extract, Sodium Hyaluronate, Caprylyl Glycol, Proprietary Amino Acid Complex, Arginine
The mask material feels not quite like a traditional cotton sheet mask, but much softer and thinner. When I look closely, the fabric looks like a fine mesh that fit nicely against my skin.
Final verdict: Yes, when I removed the mask my skin looked like I had a blast of energy, but I really didn't like the tacky feel all that much. After having used a number of sheet masks in my time, while I like the ingredients and the actual sheet mask itself, I was not a fan of the essence formulation. Pricing for these masks is quite reasonable and I look forward to Avon releasing more sheet masks!
