Who says you can't look beautiful while wearing a sheet mask? Years ago, I probably never would have posted a melfie because it's sort of a vulnerable post, almost moreso than a bare face because you are constricted by the rigidity of the mask itself. You can't do the subtle Mona Lisa smile let alone be alluring, but now sheet masks have become not necessarily about skin, but about entertainment with a few skincare bonuses thrown in!
In North America, we recently started loving pictures of dogs, cats or kabuki masks printed on sheet masks, but then I saw a lace mask from Korean company Banila Co. which looked like the prettiest thing I had ever seen!

The It Radiant Lace Hydrogel Mask Sheet is a brightening mask featuring "arbutin and apricot flower with white flower complex". When I looked at the ingredients list, niacinamide was right there at the top and is one of the most effective brightening ingredients. The "flower complex" is at the end of the list and in the lowest concentrations and while they may still be contributing to the overall radiance effect, odds are that it is the niacinamide that's doing most of the work.
Ingredients: Water, Glycerin, Niacinamide, Ceratonia Siliqua Gum, Chondrus Crispus Powder, Lactobacillus Ferment, Scutellaria Baicalensis Root Extract, Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract, Artemisia Princeps Leaf Extract, Houttuynia Cordata Extract, Citrus Junos Fruit Extract, Ricinus Communis (Castor) Seed Oil, 1,2-Hexandiol, Caprylyl Glycol, Phenoxyethanol, PEG-60 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Japanese apricot extract, Butylene Gylcol, Ethylhexyl Glycerin, Disodium EDTA, Potassium Hydroxide, Fragrance, Arbutin, , Lilum Candidum Flower Extract, Mirabilis jalapa extract, Sambucus nigra (Elderflower) extract, Lotus extract, Silver bell extract, Jasmine extract, Lonicera japonica extract, Hyacinth extract, Daisy extract, Peony extract.
This is a hydrogel mask and comes in two separate pieces - one for the top half of the face and one for the chin. I love hydrogel masks because they adhere much better to the skin thanks to the jelly texture and always look and feel super cool! The fit was quite good as there were little cuts at strategic spots on the mask allowing me to tuck and fold around the forehead and chin.
The lace is imprinted right on the hydro gel and while this was a thinner gel than hydrogel masks I have used before (like this one from The Face Shop), it still felt very comfortable to wear. I should have worn this on my wedding day as a veil! Imagine having your husband peel this thing off instead of lifting the veil!
Final verdict: As pretty as this mask was, the residue left behind was so unbelievably sticky. I massaged and massaged, then put moisturizer on top, but still I just felt uncomfortable. My skin looked good, but I felt like there was honey all over my face. I wouldn't repurchase this just based on the stickiness factor and knowing that I have a ton of niacinaimde in other products that wouldn't have made me feel this uncomfortable. It's a pretty mask though, so for anyone who loves sheet masks, you will probably still want to try it for yourselves!
The Banila Co. It Radiant Lace Hydrogel Mask Sheet is available at various Korean Beauty e-tailers.
